It is assumed that the first tulip vases were made when tulips were a status symbol and almost unaffordable. But tulip vases date from the time of King Stadholder William 3 and his wife Mary Stuart. Then the first vases were made with spouts, possibly because Mary Stuart launched the fashion to bring in fresh flowers.
This specimen could have stood there on the table.
